A Life in Mission

I am happy I can finally say that things are moving forward. Gary has sourced some money from somewhere that we will be using to buy equipment, although it is borrowed in some form or another. So we are still praying that God will provide the funds necessary to pay back the source.

This week I am working hard reviewing all the equipment list, finalizing stuff, and then ordering. I am double checking everything, and looking for current prices etc. It’s a lot of work and I’ve had a couple of setbacks, but I think we’ll be ready to order sometime this week. So then it’s a matter of getting all the equipment here and putting it together to make sure everything works as expected. Then get it off to be shipped to Kenya.

I still need to price and get tickets… I don’t know how much the current prices are yet as I haven’t had time to price them out. And I know there will be expenses for visas, and other things during the time that I’ll be there. But I know that God will provide. I don’t need to worry as God is definitely opening the door and I know He doesn’t change his mind.

Please pray for this project and that God will continue to open the way.

God’s timing is not always our timing. I wish I could say that I have my tickets and know when I’m going. But such is not the case.
I have put together the list of the equipment that we need, and at the moment I’m waiting to hear from Gary with regards to actually making the purchases. When we get the equipment then I can arrange for getting it to the ferry company, and getting my plane tickets. I hope it can happen soon… But I have to wait on God’s timing, not my own.

David Gates and Jon Wood spent the last month or so in Asia, doing several FaithCamps. FaithCamps are really taking off in Asia. At ASI in Korea a individual from Africa asked Uncle David to come to Tanzania to speak for FaithCamp there, a request that Uncle David said yes to. This will be the first FaithCamp in Africa! I believe it will be sometime in April of next year. This is something that I don’t want to miss, and I hope that our media team in Kenya will be ready to record the messages.

I’m praying that I can still go to Thailand and do some video work there with the Karen, but I’m not sure whether God is going to open that door… I pray so, and I sure hope so, but God’s will is ultimately what I want. Please pray that His will will be made plain.

Please pray for me as I plan, and seek God’s will. Please also pray for the finances for this equipment that is needed for the media center in Kenya, that God will provide. Please pray for those who will make up our team there, that God will prepare them for this work, and that He will hand select them.

Sorry this isn’t too much new news, but I wanted to at least give you an update of what I know.

I have pretty much finished the list of equipment I think we will need for the media team there in Kenya. It ended up totaling almost $20,000! I have gone through it and weighed in my mind how important is each thing on the list, and whether or not we could reasonably get along without it, and I think that it’s about the least we can do with. So now I’m trying to coordinate with Gary and see what we can do to get this equipment.

I am looking at tickets to Kenya, and pricing them out. I should also go to Cameroon when the work is done getting the team in Kenya started. I want to do some documentary on our projects there… Then I also am checking tickets to Bangkok from Cameroon. I have done a lot of searching and found the best prices I can. Also I called a travel agent who found pretty much the same prices and is able to book the flights for me. It’s cheaper to get the tickets all together as a package than separately meaning that I have to pay for it all at once. The total is $3200 based on current prices including a flight back to the US. I don’t have this kind of money, but I know Someone who does! Another option is that I can buy a one way ticket to Kenya ( I have money enough for that) and I can help get the TV station up and going, and then see what God does… I am praying that God will make his will plain… Please join me in this prayer, as God has to be the one to open the door now. I’ve done everything I can do up till this point, so I’m leaving the rest up to Him. I know that he will work out His will, and if he wants me to take this plan that he will provide the means.

I’ve been meaning to post for the last couple days, but I just haven’t had the time… I’ve finally decided I have to do it now, or it’s not going to happen!

I spoke with Gary Roberts this Monday about Africa and plans and so forth. We have people in Kenya that are willing to work with a Media Center. Gary said they know quite a bit as far as technical stuff goes, but they need someone with media knowledge to come and get things started. They need equipment too. I hardly feel that I’m the right person to go and get things started… but someone has to.

We could go on air in a few months in Kenya and we need programming. The local government requires 60% of programming be locally produced while 40% can be rebroadcast from elsewhere. So while we can rebroadcast footage that we have in other networks we have to have create a good portion of our own programming. So this is the reason for the urgency of getting some recording started and some equipment there for them to work with. I’m not sure how we’re going to pay to get the equipment, or where the money is going to come from, but even though we need at a minimum something around or a little over $10,000 to get all the equipment we need to start recording. This isn’t our problem…

So I’ve been working for the last couple of days getting together a list of the equipment that we need to start production. It’s a daunting task! But it’s necessary. The breakthroughs that we’ve in technology now allow someone to literally show up with their equipment to shoot with in a couple of suitcases! A new switcher that has just been made available this year switches HD footage with 8 inputs and it’s about the size or smaller than a personal computer! (tower). Jon Wood just used one for the first time at ASI Korea, and was very pleased with how it worked… Anyway, I’m looking forward to putting this new technology to work for God. Please pray that we get all the right pieces of equipment, exactly the ones that we will need.

I’m planning to fly to Nairobi Kenya early this October. I’ll probably spend at least 2 or 3 weeks there training and getting all the equipment set up and working, then I would like to go with Gary to some of our other projects around Africa and document the needs, and so forth…

I’ve also been praying about going to Thailand and doing a video project about the Karen people. I have a friend that is going there and would like me to come along to do some video work… So if the Lord continues to open this door, I could just fly strait from Kenya to Bangkok and then spend several months there also…

I need to get a good video camera that I can use for the documentary work, and I need to get this list together, and we need to buy it all and test it and get it ready to travel with, and I need to find tickets, in addition to whatever stuff needs to be done here at the office… Sometimes it seems overwhelming, but I know that God will give me the strength and wisdom I need.

Please pray as I prepare for this trip, pray that God will guide me in preparation, pray that the Holy Spirit will prepare the way ahead of me, pray that this media center can go into production soon, pray that we will go on the air in God’s time frame, and pray for the people that will hear the message through the programming. This will be a way to reach many who may never have heard of the message of salvation. Please pray especially for them.

Just wanted to let you all know that the Lord didn’t open the doors for me to go to Korea, so I know that He wants me here right now.

I’m still praying and preparing for a trip to Africa this September or October. Still not sure of too many details, but will try to keep posting the latest news here.
